Jarvis And Jamelia Among Oxjam Stars

by | 11 September 2007

Jarvis Cocker, Fatboy Slim and Jamelia have all signed up to perform in a charity shop.

The stars are among a number of celebs who have agreed to lend their support to the Oxjam music festival in October.

Former Pulp man Jarvis will be delivering a DJ set alongside an acoustic performance by the Kooks on Monday October 1st to launch the event, which will see a series of exclusive performances in an Oxfam shop.

The event location will remain secret but members of the public can win tickets at the Oxjam site online.

Chart star Jamelia is headlining on Tuesday October 2nd, while Hot Chip will be delivering a live set the day after.

Brighton DJ Fatboy Slim will lead events on October 4th, which brings the launch events to a close.

"I have always donated my unwanted records to my local Oxfam shop, but performing in one will be a first for me, so I'm really looking forward to it," the DJ, whose real name is Norman Cook, said.

"It also shows that all you need to make an Oxjam event happen is a set of decks, a few choice tunes and a place to play them, so there's really no excuse not to get involved."

As well as the four charity shop gigs, thousands of other events are to be put on next month, ranging from sponsored busks to festivals.

Oxfam, which made £500,000 last year from the event, hopes to double that figure this year – enough to provide safe water for almost 1.4 million people, 20,000 emergency shelters or essential medicines for 10,000 villages.
