Mad Men - January Jones: 'Don't Feel Sorry For Me As A Single Mother'

28 February 2013

Mad Men star January Jones is adamant she shouldn't be pitied for raising her son on her own, insisting life as a single mother is a "joy".

The actress became a first-time mum when she gave birth to Xander in 2011, but she has refused to name the child's father and is bringing up her little boy without a partner.

However, Jones argues others shouldn't feel sorry for her because her life is now better than ever.

She tells Britain's Glamour magazine, "People keep saying, 'Oh poor you, being a single mum.' But I don't want to be pitied. I can do anything I want to do. I work, I date, I have friends. I have time for everything I had time for before.

"I just have an added amazing thing in my life. I don't think being a single mum is something I need to feel sorry about or need to go to group therapy over. It's really a joy in my life and that's it.''

The blonde beauty also admits she relishes the challenge of balancing her career with motherhood, adding, "I'm the sort of person who likes to juggle many things at once. I manage my time better when I have a lot going on. So I feel good with that energy about the baby and making sure he's on schedule. And I don't require a lot of support. I have a great family and friends, and I know they'd be there if I needed help, but I feel like I'm doing it fine on my own. Being a mum is something I always wanted to do and I love it."
