Janis Joplin - Janis Joplin Wanted To Sleep With Clive Davis
Iconic singer/songwriter Janis Joplin offered music mogul Clive Davis a night of passion after signing to Columbia Records in the late 1960s.
The label executive spotted the Summertime singer's talent following her 1967 performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in California and he promptly offered her a recording contract, but the young Joplin was unhappy with "the formality" of the process, so she offered up sex to a stunned Davis.
He recalls, "She thought we could sleep together!"
He politely declined the offer, but the pair remained close friends until her untimely death just three years later (70). He tells People.com, "We had a very special connection."
Davis opens up about his bond with Joplin and another tragic protegee, Whitney Houston, in his new memoir The Soundtrack of My Life.
