Jamie Foxx - Jamie Foxx Joins Trayvon Martin Peace Walk
Actor Jamie Foxx joined a peace walk in memory of slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin in Miami, Florida, on Saturday (09Feb13).
The Django Unchained star marched with Martin's parents Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin at the Day Of Remembrance Peace Walk in honour of the high school student, who was shot dead by a neighbourhood watchman last February (12).
Foxx also spoke at the march at Ives Estates Park, echoing campaigners' calls for the state's 'stand-your-ground' law to be repealed.
According to Florida news station Nbc 6, Foxx said, "The thing is with press, and you know how press goes, it will be a hot story at one point. It will be the thing to go to and, all of a sudden, they try to forget about it. And I said I don't want anybody to forget about this, because they can't forget about the fact that they lost their son... The thing is, we're not asking for anything out of the ordinary. We're asking for justice."
The controversial stand-your-ground statute allows residents to use deadly force in self-defence if they feel threatened, and initially protected Martin's shooter, George Zimmerman, from arrest.
Zimmerman has since been charged with second-degree murder.
