Jamie Bell - Jamie Bell: I Always Saw Myself As Tintin

Jamie Bell has "always" seen himself as Tintin.

The 25-year-old actor felt "really comfortable" starring as the titular character in 'The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn' 10 years after he was first approached by director Steven Spielberg to be in the movie but he admits he would've been too inexperienced before now.

He told movies.ie: "Tintin has always been on my radar, it's something that's a personal thing. I always see myself as him to a degree, I think a lot of people see themselves as him. There's an ownership that people have over him for some reason.

"I was 15 when I first met Steven for it but I was not prepared to really be working with him at that point in my life. I hadn't done enough work and I hadn't worked with enough people. I'm glad the film didn't come together at that time because I think it would've been a totally different movie.

"But by the time I got to making the film I felt really comfortable and ready to go and do my version of Tintin. I think it's the best movie that Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg have made."

The 'Billy Elliot' star carefully studied the character before filming the movie - which was shot using motion capture technology and is based on the comic books created by Belgian artist Georges Remil, who wrote under the pen name Herge - and he even started drawing Tintin to "focus" on his physicality.

He added: "I feel like I have a primal understanding of this character because I've read a lot about it. I read about Herge and where he was in his life when he came up with the character.

"I went back and looked at all that books and I started drawing Tintin. I really focused on the physicality of the character. He's such a dynamic character the way he's drawn."
