James Murphy Threatened Kid Who Criticised His Music

James Murphy once threatened to beat up a child who criticised his music.

The LCD Soundsystem frontman - who ended the electronic group last year - said he hates the fact people moan so much in Britain and admitted he once grabbed a kid by the throat who complained during his DJ set.

He said: ''I remember DJing once and this kid came up to me and said, 'This set is so s**t', to try to show me how cool he was.

''I just grabbed him by the throat and was like, 'You're talking to a f***ing stranger. We don't know each other, dude. I am from a f***ing farm town, I will beat the s**t out of you.'

''I take criticism every day. You can't just go up to a stranger and moan. That s**t has only happened to me in England.''

The singer - who had hits with 'All My Friends' and 'Losing My Edge' - says despite performing to thousands of people at shows he never actually knew the words to any of their songs and made up the lyrics each time.

He told Shortlist magazine: ''I just made all that stuff up every time, and had those notes to help go down the right path. Each performance was different, the words caught on record just happened to be the words I sang that day.

''I always used to like it when we were at a festival in Europe or something, and these kids up front would be singing our songs back at us and you could see them getting all self-conscious because they were getting s**t wrong. I always wanted to say, 'Don't beat yourself up. You're right. You know the words, but I don't.''
