James Mcavoy Talks Professor X

James McAvoy plans to "bury" Sir Patrick Stewart's performance of Professor X.

The Scottish actor - who will portray a younger version of the bald-headed professor in the upcoming movie 'X-Men: First Class' - jokes he will do a better job than Patrick at playing the character.

He said: "I'm basically going to try and bury Patrick's performance."

Discussing the movie further, the 31-year-old star believes the reboot of the series will be an opportunity for fans to learn more about the characters.

He said: "I think the fun about these films, when you back and you either reboot or do a prequel, is you get to see how people became who they are.

"That means that you have to do them differently and by the end of the movie you have to do them the same way.

"The interesting journey is what happens to them, what changes them, what makes them evolve - not just mutate, but emotionally and psychologically evolve."

It has already be confirmed his character will be different to the version known in the previous films - as well as being able to walk and having hair, he will also be known as just Charles Xavier.

James added to MTV News: "I would suggest by the end of the movie and the start of the next movie, it'll be more like what Patrick does. Or maybe not. Maybe it will be in a period of flux, if there is a new movie."

An all star cast are starring in the movie - directed by Matthew Vaughn - including Nicholas Hoult, Kevin Backon, January Jones and Michael Fassbender.

It is due to hit cinemas in June 2011.
