Following Sopranos actor James Gandolfini’s death and the subsequent wave of condolenses from across the entertainment world and beyond, on Sunday night his body was transported back to the U.S. from Rome, Italy, where Gandolfini diedр E!Online reports. A spokesperson for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey made the announcement that a plane carrying Gandolfini's body landed at Newark Liberty International Airport at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, and the actor's remains left the airport for a funeral home in New Jersey at 11:20 p.m. Since the announcement last week, fans and colleagues of Gandolfini have expressed their grief and posted tributes on various social media outlets.

Gandoflini’s family has also issued a statement, via a spokesperson, saying: "On behalf of the Gandolfini family, I would like to thank the Italian authorities for all the assistance they have rendered in expediting the formalities necessary to repatriate James Gandolfini's remains to the United States.”

Michael Cobold, on behalf of the family, continued: "It has been our privilege to be guests in your beautiful country, despite the difficult circumstances. We sincerely thank you."

The funeral home has announced that all arrangements have been made and a memorial service has been scheduled for Thursday in New York City. This information was confirmed by a statement from HBO, which also mentioned that the service would be held at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in upper Manhattan.
