James Cracknell - James Cracknell Still Angry Over 2010 Road Crash

British rower-turned-Tv star James Cracknell is still angry about his near-fatal road accident in 2010 as it crushed his dream of competing in the 2012 Olympic Games.
The two-time gold medallist was filming a Discovery Channel cycling programme in Arizona when he collided with a truck, leaving him with a fractured skull and damage to the frontal lobe of his brain, which governs personality and motivation.
Cracknell defied doctors who feared the worst by battling back to health, but admits the brain injury is still affecting his life and his relationship with wife Beverley.
He tells Britain's Daily Mirror, "I feel a bit useless that I can't help out much, especially where driving is concerned. Since the accident, I've had two seizures; one last October and the other five weeks ago, so I'm not allowed to drive for a year. As a result, I now have a pedal-powered three-wheeler. It has four seats in it and I have been known to give Bev a lift back from the pub in it - but I don't drink now because I'm on heavy medication."
Cracknell, who won gold medals at the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, still harbours resentment as he continues his recovery and admits he's disappointed he will have to watch the upcoming London Games from the sidelines.
He adds, "Three months ago, I had my 40th birthday but I didn't really celebrate it. I appreciate how lucky I am to be here but I can't help but feel angry... So far, the petrol tanker driver (who collided with me) hasn't been prosecuted but I have got other things to think about...
"Before my accident, I had been speaking to my coach about taking part in the London 2012 Olympics but afterwards it just wasn't an option. Instead, I am going to be reporting on the rowing and triathlon for Bbc Radio 5 Live. It will be a very different feeling watching the Games and I do wish it was going to be me out there in a boat."
