Adele’s Skyfall: the James Bond theme that was set to storm the charts has only managed second place, runner up, a silver medal, The Mirror can report.

It, perhaps, is a true reflection on the recent success of Adele, who has dominated the charts over the past few years with her powerful voice and emotive songs, that a second place in the charts is reported as a disappointment. But considering the prestige surrounding her latest effort, joining the pantheon of singing legends that have performed Bond tunes, a lot was expected from Skyfall. However, it’s not as if she’s failed where others have succeeded, no, she’s simply failed to become the first Bond songster to top the British charts. Instead, she was outdone but not outshone by DJ supergroup Swedish House Mafia with their track Don’t You Worry Child. Her Bond effort only reached number 4 on release, and has climbed to the second spot since then. Surely it will rocket to the top once the movie, starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, hits cinemas on the 26th of October. The premier in London is on the 23rd.

The whole Bond girl thing probably hasn’t been the glamorous experience Adele was hoping for. She would have been shaken at the news of her song’s leakage after a small press outing, but she’ll be stirred to do better after her failure to top the charts.
