Jake Gyllenhaal Talks ‘End Of Watch’ At Toronto Premiere

Jake Gyllenhaal stopped to speak to ITN news about his new film, End Of Watch, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this weekend.

The film, directed by David Ayer, tells the story of two police officers in L.A, who come across an unexpected haul of weapons during a routine traffic stop. Gyllenhaal has spoken candidly about his role in the film, and what he’s learnt from it. “What I didn’t realise, was inside that police car, whatever police car you see, are most usually two friends. Two people who are willing, and have to, whether they’re willing or not, give their life for the other, or have to protect them”. Taylor, Gyllenhaal’s character’s best friend is Zavala, a Hispanic officer, and the pair depict an easy-going, yet dedicated friendship in the film. To prepare for such a role, the two actors spent five months with police on the streets of L.A. “All that is real,” explained Gyllenhaal. “The Cartel and the gangs and all those situations, things like that happen and that’s real.”

The film has garnered generally favourable reviews, with The Guardian giving it four stars, and saying, “Switch on the siren, put the pedal to the floor. Revel in the pace and passion of a film-maker policing a field that is now unquestionably his.” End Of Watch will hit U.S. theaters on September 21, 2012.
