Jada Pinkett Smith: Charity work is important

Jada Pinkett Smith keeps her children grounded with charity work.

The 'Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted' star's kids Jaden, 14, and Willow, 12, have forged showbiz careers in their own right but she and their father, 'Men in Black' actor Will Smith, always keep their feet on the ground by making them help those in need.

Jada explained: ''One of the things we do is a lot of charity work. Willow and I are very involved with an organisation that takes care of victims of human trafficking. When you expose your kids to that it gives them a sense of reality and a sense of purpose outside of themselves. Put them in circumstances where their efforts are needed to make things better.

''My grandmother was a community activist. I kept that particular idea alive with my family. It takes my kids out of the Hollywood bubble. And I really like that.''

Jada - who voices the character of Gloria the hippo in 'Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted' which is out now on Blu-ray and DVD - also spoke of her passion for helping other women do better and creating career opportunities for them.

She said: ''I come from a very creative family. We like to create opportunities for everybody. I make sure I create for women with women, very often. It's very important for me. I have seen an evolution for women. A lot of high executives today are women. But I feel there is still a lot of work to do.''
