Jackson Estate Settles Debt With 2005 Trial Lawyer

The lawyer who secured MICHAEL JACKSON's freedom in his 2005 molestation trial has settled an outstanding invoice with the executors of the King of Pop's estate.
Top celebrity attorney Tom Mesereau was one of many Jackson affiliates who filed a creditor's claim with the estate following the pop star's death in June 2009, alleging he was still owed $341,452.05 (£227,634.70) for his services.
Mesereau defended the late Thriller hitmaker during his highly-publicised court case, in which Jackson faced seven counts of child molestation and two of administering an intoxicating agent to a 13-year-old boy.
The singer denied all charges and, in June 2005, he was acquitted on all counts.
Now Mesereau has finally been paid in full for his work, five years after the trial closed.
The settlement was declared in legal papers filed by the estate bosses in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday (22Sep10).
In the documents, obtained by TMZ.com, the executors explain how they managed to overcome Jackson's huge debts and make a profit for the estate, revealing the This Is It concert documentary grossed $260 million (£173.3 million) to become the most lucrative in history, while the accompanying album sold five million copies - making it the third biggest record of 2009.
In addition, the court papers state a creditor's claim filed by Jackson's personal chef Kai Chase, who was at his Holmby Hills mansion when he died, had also been settled, with executors paying part of the $8,000 (£5,330) she requested.

I love Tom Mesereau. He always believed in Mr. Jackson's innocence and continues to support him to this day. However, I still had mixed feelings when I read this about him suing the Jackson estate asking for the money. I KNOW he was owed it and had a right to be paid his full fee, but the amount of publicity he received for successfully defending Mr. Jackson could not be purchased for the remaining money he was owed. His successful defense of Mr. Jackson helped to advance his career. He seems to have done quite well without that money for those past five years. If I was in the same situation, and I didn't really need the money, I think I would have just let it go out of my love and respect for the man, and not be another one in line to sue. This suit is just is more negative fodder for the media with the portrayal of Mr. Jackson as someone not to be trusted. Mr. Jackson's bodyguards have taked about how much of Jackson's financial problems were due to mismanagement by those who were hired to handle his finances. Mr. Jackson was an emotionally and physically decimated after that brutal sham of a trial. It is felt by some, that he suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. He was in no condition to handle his business affairs and depended on his staff to take care of these things for him. Obviously, things were not handled properly- for whatever reason. Well, he is out of pain now. Never has there been an individual so systematically and methodically been set upon by the vicious media to be destroyed. I don't know how he survived as long as he did under this continuous assault. Every chance they get, no matter what the topic may be- they bring up the child abuse charges even though it has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand. He was found INNOCENT! Why bring this up again and again?? Even in death, the media continues to pick over his bones like vultures. They should be ashamed! My prayer is now for his beloved children. He was an excellent father and instilled many wonderful values in them. Hopefully, their inner strength will carry them through life and they will grow up to be kind and loving to others- even in the face of adversity- just like their father.

Excuse my language but HOW THE F*CK IS TMZ GETTING ACCESS TO ALL OF THE PERSONAL DOCUMENTS AND TRANSACTIONS OF HIS F*CKING ESTATE???? This is getting ANNOYING and TIRESOME. They are always reporting on his estate business, his debt, his mother's finances, his father's finances, WHEN WILL IT F*CKING END. I feel sorry for Paris, Prince, and Blanket. They have to grow up in this f*cked up mediaLOID pervasive society with yellow "journalists" following their every move. Imagine all the HORRIFYING tv clips, articles, books, movies, documentaries, etc. they will become aware that paint Michael in the WORST possible light. Michael's estate is doing fine, debts are quickly being paid. Now F*CK OFF T.rashing M.ichael Z.one!!! His estate wouldn't be settling debts for his case (aka a SHAM constructed by a CORRUPT D.A., his police force & pro-prosecution journalists, which wasted MILLIONS of tax payers' dollars) I hope these "legal documents" stop being "fed" to the media. I'd also appreciate John McClain and John Branca NOT speaking to the mediaLOID about the estate. The media is only interested in the MONEY, NOT Michael's "image" which needed "restoring" by that exploitative film This Is (NOT) It, not Michael's children, not his family either. MONEY is the main concern, just like it was when the mediaLOID actively tried to ruin Michael's reputation. He is no longer here so the mediaLOID has to continue stalking his every "posthumous" move in order to compensate for the loss of Anti-MJ income. Tom Messerau NEVER complained about Michael failing to pay him the full legal fees. He was just happy to proclaim Michael's INNOCENCE to the world, no matter what others said.

sityourassdownusher: I agree! It all has gotten to be way too much! I can't imagine how or what his children will do with all the "stuff" that was left behind regarding their father. It is time to let it all go and let his family move on.
