Jackson Browne - Jackson Browne Headlines Benefit Concert For Local Radio Station

Singer/songwriter Jackson Browne has thrown his support behind an independent Californian radio station by headlining a benefit concert to fund new transmitters.

The star has given his backing to Kcsn-Fm, based at California State University in Northridge, as bosses attempt to extend the station's signal and bring the rock format to a wider audience.

He helped raise money by playing at the university's Valley Performing Arts Center on Sunday (18Nov12), telling the audience the station is a "treasure in our community".

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers performed two fundraising shows for the radio station last year (11), and Browne reveals the gigs inspired him to get involved.

He tells the Los Angeles Times, "I had such a good time watching the Petty show in that intimate setting. Aside from having been turned onto Kcsn by the benefit that Tom did, they deserve to have a larger area that their transmitters can hit. We feel really proud to be a part of that because of the kind of radio station they are."
