Jackie Chan - Jackie Chan plots musical about his life

Jackie Chan is writing a musical based on his life.

The legendary martial arts actor has confirmed he is adapting his 1998 autobiography 'I Am Jackie Chan: My Life in Action' into a stage musical, which he will narrate.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference in New York City yesterday (11.06.13), he said: ''We are looking for a director for the musical right now.''

The 59-year-old star - whose Hollywood credits include the 'Rush Hour' series - will document his life from his early years in Hong Kong to his time in youth acrobatic group Seven Little Fortunes, as well as his battle to step out of the shadow of martial arts legend Bruce Lee.

Jackie has previously expressed his love of musical films, particularly 1965 family flick 'The Sound of Music', which starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.

He said at the time: ''I love 'The Sound of Music'. When I was young, I didn't know English and I saw the whole movie.''

The iconic star is currently being honoured for his film work in both Hollywood and his native Hong Kong.

Last week, the actor - like many top stars before him - had his hand and foot prints imprinted outside Los Angeles' TCL Chinese Theatre. Jackie first took part in the prestigious ceremony in 1997 but his cement plaque has since mysteriously disappeared.

The 'Chinese Zodiac' star also received a lifetime achievement award at the New York Asian Film Festival yesterday.

Jaden Smith to play cross-dressing slave 4158030 News

Jaden Smith will play a dress-wearing slave in a new movie.

The 15-year-old actor - who is the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith - has signed up to star in 'The Good Lord Bird' alongside 'Ray Donovan' star Liev Schreiber, reports deadline.com.

The movie, which is an adaptation of the 2013 National Book Award winner by James McBride, is set in Kansas in 1856 and follows slave Henry 'Onion' Shackleford (Smith), a young slave who links up with radical abolitionist John Brown (Schreiber) and his crew of freedom fighters.

The satirical tale is told through the eyes of Onion, who is initially mistaken for a girl, as he follows Brown in his historic campaign en route to the Harper's Ferry raid which helped spark the US civil war.

The book the movie is based on was named in the top 10 Books of the Year last year, and was a New York Times best-seller.

Schreiber will produce alongside James McBride and Brian Taylor.

Smith was most recently seen opposite Jackie Chan in 'Karate Kid' and 'After Earth' alongside his famous father, and also has sequel 'Karate Kid 2' in the pipeline.

Jackie Chan confuses Princes 4067906 News

Jackie Chan mistook Prince William for Prince Harry when he met him.

The Hong Kong born action movie legend greeted the third in line to the English throne at a reception following the Illegal Wildlife Trade conference in London on Wednesday (12.02.14), where he made the gaffe of confusing him with his brother by congratulating him on his recent trek to the South Pole.

Jackie told The Times newspaper: ''Prince William said, 'No, that was my brother,' and I said, 'I'm sorry.' But they look almost same, huh?''

The Prince laughed off Jackie's mistake and shook hands with him. For many people from different cultures, the easiest way to tell the two princes apart is by the colour of their hair. While William is fair, his brother sports a darker, coppery tone.

'Rush Hour' star Jackie is a spokesman for wildlife charity WildAid and is passionate about the animal rights, saying he refuses food at government functions if it comes from endangered species.

He previously said: ''Ten years ago, when I was making a film in China, the government brought me a dinner.

''I sit down; boom - they give me shark fin soup. I said, 'Put it away.' ''

Meanwhile William and Harry were both at the function to support their father, the Prince of Wales, who gave a speech.

He called for ''urgent action to put a stop to this trade, which has become a grave threat not only to the wildlife and the people who protect them, but also to the security of so many nations.''

Perry addressed her appointment in a statement, describing her honour at being named a Goodwill Ambassador. She said, "I believe young people have the power to change their own lives, with our help. Jackie Chan's 'Chinese Zodiac' Could Be His Last Ever Action Movie Role! 3913595 News

Jackie Chan's career has been defined by performing some of cinematic's most visually spectacular stunts, but is time ticking for the mixed martial artist who turns 60 next year?

Chan wrote, directed, co-produced and starred in his 2012 action movie 'Chinese Zodiac' where he plays a treasure hunter and claimed it was his most ambitious project to date.

But with the 'Rush Hour' actor turning 60 this coming April, rumours are frequently suggesting that this may be his last big stunt movie role.

In a recent interview with Collider, Jackie commented on his aging body. The website asked him, "It's been rumoured that this will be your last big action film. Is that true?"

The 59 year-old replied, "Wrong message again! You all know I'm not young anymore. (Joking) I'm 40. I've lost count. (Laughs) Next year, in seven more months, I'm going to be 60. Okay?"

He added, "I wanted to prove by doing this that I could still do a big action movie for audiences. That's the one. But when I was doing this one, it was really, really painful. It's not like it used to be. Me, I want to do it, but my body tells me to stop. And after I had an accident, my back really hurt."

The 'Shanghai Noon' actor doesn't seem to know if this will be his last big action feature but how much punishment can the man's body take?

Reuters reports, in an interview promoting his 2012 Chinese action film, Chan, again addresses questions over his age, "When I was 40-something the media would ask me and then I said another five years, and then five years and five years until now".

Jackie adds, "Six more months and I'm going to be 60, And I (will) see how far I can go until my body tells me, 'Stop.'"

Hopefully Jackie will stop before he suffers a serious injury but after doing the same crazy stunts for all these years, you can't help but think the comedic actor is invincible.

'Chinese Zodiac' was released in limited theatres throughout the US on October 18th 2013.

Bruce Willis "Lazy" And "Greedy", Replaced By Harrison Ford In 'Expendables 3', Sylvester Stallone Tweets 3803033 News

Sylvester Stallone announced via Twitter that Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford would feature in Expendables 3. The Rocky actor criticised Bruce Willis, describing him as "lazy" and "greedy" following his decision to leave the film franchise.

Willis appeared in the first two Expendables films. The films are notable for casting classic 'tough guy' actors including Arnold Schwarzenegger and Chuck Norris.

Posting his comments on Twitter on Tuesday (6th August), Stallone first announced the casting arrangements for Expendables 3, simply stating: "Willis out. Harrison Ford In!" It seems the relationship between Stallone and Willis has been tense for some time, as Stallone added he'd "been waiting years for this!"

Stallone went on to claim Willis is "lazy" and "greedy" and that he was doomed to "career failure" as a result of his decision to leave the franchise. Although the tweets were not directly addressed to Willis, Stallone's representative later confirmed (to the Huffington Post) his remarks were aimed at the Die Hard actor.

Lionsgate Studios, who are financing Expendables 3, have not commented on the casting for the film or on Willis' departure. If Harrison has indeed been cast, he will appear alongside Nicholas Cage and Jackie Chan. The film is due to start filming next month and will be released on 15th November 2014.

Set In Stone: Jackie Chan's Stardom Is Cemented In Hollywood History 3708317 News

59 year-old Jackie Chan, who made a name for himself by performing his own stunts throughout his illustrious martial arts career, has left second imprints of his hands and feet outside Hollywood's Chinese Theatre after the first set disappeared.

Hong Kong-born Chan has starred in over a hundred films since his first appearance as a child actor in 1962's Big and Little Wong Tin Bar, crossing into Hollywood in 1995 with cult-film Rumble in the Bronx and receiving a Sidewalk Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002.

Described as a more exclusive honour than Hollywood's WoF by The Daily Mail, a special 'handprint' ceremony was held yesterday (6th June) where Chan made his prints in front of an audience including Jaden Smith - son of Will Smith and Chan's young co-star in the recent remake of The Karate Kid.

It is not known where previous prints vanished to, however spokespeople from the Chinese Theatre say that rather than being stolen, the slab was removed to make room for new entries.

Also in attendance was fellow Rush Hour series actor and friend, Chris Tucker, who appeared alongside Chan in the hugely commercially successful martial arts/comedy action blockbusters. Giving a speech at the event, Tucker showed his respect for Buddhist and fighting expert Chan: "It was just an honour to be in a movie with him...He's been a mentor, a big brother. He's the best guy in the whole wide world."

According to Reuters reporting from the Cannes Film festival, Chan is turning down the heat on his stunts; after countless broken bones and smashed teeth, he is going to do less of his own stunts but continue to make films as talented actor, producer, director and fighting choreographer.

Chan's immortalized prints will once again lie proudly alongside the upper echelons of Hollywood stardom, including Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and Humphrey Bogart.

Stallone Names Patrick Hughes As The Director For "The Expendables 3" 3625394 News

Australian director Patrick Hughes has been named by Sylvester Stallone to helm his newest writing endeavor, The Expendables 3. Nothing is official just yet though, as Hughes still has to win the approval of Millenium, the studio behind the Expendables franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hughes will be flying in shortly to meet with studio heads, but the director is pretty much a shoe in for the gig.

Hughes is a newbie in the director’s seat, with one feature film on his record – a critically acclaimed 2010 thriller, which starred Ryan Kwanten as a city police officer on a thrill ride of a first day in a small country town. So, while he might be lacking in experience, Hughes isn’t exactly a wild card and Stallone probably knows what to expect of his work. It will be interesting to see how he handles the fast-paced action genre, though. However, with a cast this packed with famous action men, The Expendables can probably be carried on acting alone.

A lot of the stars of the previous two films are expected to return for The Expendables 3, including Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren. Some rumored additions to the already star-studded cast include Wesley Snipes and Jackie Chan. Stallone is currently in the midst of penning the script, with shooting expected to commence sometime this summer.

Jackie Chan Caught Up In Anti-American Storm 3447082 News

Jackie Chan found himself at the center of a controversy, accusing him of anti-Americanism, following a heated interview on Chinese television, during which the action star called America “the most corrupt country in the world.”

Chan made himself a world-wide star when he moved from his native Hong Kong to Hollywood to further his film career, taking on roles in such hit action/comedy films as the Rush Hour trilogy and Rumble in the Bronx. In numerous past interviews Jackie has often stated his appreciation of the American movie industry and the country's population for giving him his chance in the movies, but what most people outside of his native China might not know is that the movie star is one of the ruling Communist Party's biggest supporters and as such he readily defends his country's government.

In light of the recent news that the government censored one of the country's top newspapers, numerous press outlets have condemned the country's officials once again for its notorious censorship regime. In an interview with one of the country's top television shows, Chan - speaking in Chinese - accused America of being the most corrupt country in the world and strongly defended his country's domestic policies, regardless of the flack the ruling Communist Party so often picks up. Chan has also criticised Hong Kong and Taiwan for their democratic policy, accusing the populations of having too much freedom - and as such the comments made by Chan came as no surprise in China, but have shocked some outside of the Asian republic.

Here's a quick transcription from the more disparaging parts of the interview:

Jackie Chan: The New China. The real success has been made in the past dozen of years. Our country’s president also admits they have the corruption problem, and some other stuff, but we are making progress. What I can see is our country is continuously making progress and learning. If you talk about corruption, the entire world, the United State, has no corruption?

Host: America.

Chan: The most corrupt in the world.

Host: Really?

Chan: Of course. Where does this Great Breakdown [financial crisis] come from? It started exactly from the world, the United States. When I was interviewed in the U.S., people asked me, I said the same thing. I said now that China has become strong, everyone is making an issue of China. If our own countrymen don’t support our country, who will support our country? We know our country has many problems. We [can] talk about it when the door is closed. To outsiders, [we should say] “our country is the best.”

Host: So he can’t get enough of his more than 20 ambassador titles. I think the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should ask him to be the ambassador to the United States.

Chan: Seriously, I am always like, when the door is closed, “Our country is like this and this. Who and who is not good.” But outside, “Our country is the best, like so and so, is the best.” You cannot say our country has problems [when you are outside], like “Yes, our country is bad.”
