Jack White - Jack White Announces The White Stripes Are To Split

JACK WHITE and drummer Meg White have officially called time on the Detroit duo's 14 year history.

In a statement made on their website, the pair said that they will make no further recordings or perform live, adding, "The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health. It is for a myriad of reasons but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way". THE WHITE STRIPES reshaped rock music in the early 2000's with the band's punk and blues influences, and their albums 'De Stijl' and 'White Blood Cells' are considered modern classics. Later albums, such as their 2003 record 'Elephant', spawned the hit singles 'Seven Nation Army', 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself' and 'The Hardest Button to Button'. However, in recent years, JACK WHITE has concentrated on a number of side projects such as The Raconteurs, as well as running his own studio and label 'Third Man Records'.

Jack, renowned for his innovative guitar work, has continued to reveal very few details about his private life and despite insisting that he and Meg were siblings, it was reported back in 2006 that the pair had actually married and later divorced.
