Jack Black - Jack Black Visited Murderer 'Bernie' In Prison
Jack Black says it was "intimidating" visiting a high security prison to speak to the man whom he plays in his latest movie - convicted killer Bernie Tiede. The Hollywood funnyman portrays the killer in Richard Linklater's movie 'Bernie'.
Tiede confessed to murdering the 81-year-old millionaire Marjorie Nugent in 1996, shooting her in the back four times with a rifle. Black visited the prison to speak with Bernie in order to prepare for the role, telling E! News, "It was scary. It was intimidating...Yeah, we're safe because there are guards around, but you don't feel safe. You feel like you can get killed any minute". Tiede - a funeral director - was described as Nugent's "homosexual companion" and came to enjoy the lifestyle that came with getting close to the affluent elderly woman. However, according to the Los Angeles Times, her emotional stranglehold tightened on him and he shot her dead, hiding her body in the freezer for nine months while maintaining that she was still alive to friends. The movie also stars Shirley Maclaine and Matthew Mcconaughey, who plays the local cop investigating the murder.
Bernie hits cinemas in the U.S. on Friday (April 27, 2012). Director Richard Linklater is best known for his classic coming-of-age comedy Dazed & Confused.
