Ja Rule - Ja Rule Released From Prison, Transferred To Another Facility

Rapper Ja Rule has been released from prison and transferred to another lockdown facility, where he'll serve out the remainder of a tax evasion charge.

The I'm Real hitmaker pleaded guilty to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon in 2010 and was sentenced to two years behind bars at an upstate New York correctional facility.

He wrapped up the stint behind bars on Thursday morning (21Feb13), but, instead of walking free, he was remanded into federal custody, where he'll remain until he is assigned to another lock-up for his 2011 conviction of failing to pay more than $3 million (Gbp1.9 million) in taxes to the state of New Jersey.

The rapper served the majority of his 28-month sentence concurrently, and four months were knocked off for good behaviour, but he still must serve four months at a facility yet to be determined.

The star's lawyer, Stacey Richman, tells MTV News, "There's a lot of anticipation knowing that he's so close to the end of it... He knew he wasn't getting out today, but his spirits have been extraordinary throughout."

The 36 year old, real name Jeffery Atkins, still has to pay $1.1 million (Gbp687,500) in back taxes and serve a minimum of three years probation.
