Ivanka Trump - Ivanka Trump Accused Of Stealing Shoe Design
Multimillionaire businesswoman Ivanka Trump isn't having it all her own way in the fashion industry, after being accused of stealing a design from her footwear collection by prominent designer Derek Lam.
Wwd.com reports that Trump has received a cease-and-desist letter from Lam, who claims one of her recent shoe designs is an exact replica of his. Jan-Hendrik Schlottman, chief executive officer of Derek Lam, stressed the level of similarity between the two designs, saying, "We have seen very similar copies before but we have never seen a shoe that perfectly copied". The shoe in question is a common wedge-style from the Ivanka Trump Footwear Collection available in stores for around $150, though Lam claims the shoe is a knock-off his of Ayami wedge design, which sells for around $780. Ivanka moved to deny the claims almost immediately, with her distributor Marc Fisher Footwear releasing a statement that read, "The Lam wedge sandals are of a popular design type that has been used by numerous manufacturers for many decades. There is nothing iconic about the appearance of the Lam sandal". As for how Trump's design differs enough from Lam's wedge style, the statement explained, "The Ivanka Trump sandals prominently display the Ivanka Trump name, and there can be no confusion as to the source of the Ivanka Trump sandals".
Despite Trump's denial, Derek Lam has reportedly given the heiress seven business days to pull the shoe off the market.
