Islam Cuts Mccartney Detention Song From Album

Folk rocker-turned-Muslim convert Yusuf Islam has cut the song he recorded about his infamous detention in the U.S. from his new album - because it doesn't fit with the tone of the other tracks.

The singer/songwriter, aka Cat Stevens, found himself in front of panicked Homeland Security officials in Maine when his flight to Nashville, Tennessee, was diverted.

He was en-route to record music for his 2006 album An Other Cup.

Islam and his daughter, who was accompanying him, were detained for hours because his name was similar to one on a federal list of people considered dangerous to the U.S. in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

He tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper, "They kept asking me to spell my name... It was like a bad B-movie, where you didnt know the plot and didnt know the outcome. The worst thing was they kept me separated from my daughter."

The star teamed up with Sir Paul MCCartney, Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton to record Boots & Sand - a tune he wrote about the experience - but the track won't appear on his new album, Roadsinger.

Islam explains, "It didnt fit with the rest of the material for the new album."

Instead, the song will be offered as a bonus track at Amazon.com.
