Is Whitney Housten's Last Ever Movie Performance Memorable?
Well unfortunately, the overall consensus is average. "Sparkle is never more than an overheated mediocrity" said Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment Weekly, giving the film a B- review score. He was however moved to praise Housten's acting performance; "At times, it's like a Joan Crawford neurotic-mother fantasy, and the gravelly conviction of Whitney Houston's performance proves that this could have been the first step not merely in a comeback but in a major re-invention. She had the instincts of a superb character actress."
One person who will be immensely proud of the 'I Will Always Love You. singer is her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown. In a heart-warming, open letter to her late mother, the 19-year-old was said to be "very proud", reports The Province. "I'm so proud that you were able to finish making 'Sparkle' before things happened. You did it for us. Mom, you had such a great time making the movie. You glowed throughout...you just glowed" said an emotional Kristina Brown to Ebony Magazine.
The stars turned out in their droves to pay tribute to Housten at the premier of Sparkle, with Jordin Sparks, Derek Luke, Mike Epps, Cee Lo Green, Carmen Ejogo and Tika Sumpter all attending to pay their respects, and enjoy the undoubted talents of the late pop-star, Whitney Housten.
