Is 'The Dark Knight Rises' Critical Reception Beginning To Slide?

The U.S. critics might have been bowled over by the behemoth that is the latest Batman film 'The Dark Knight Rises', but the reaction in the UK has not so far proved quite as warm, with the film receiving its first set of bad reviews. Indeed, after a quick summary of the top U.S. critics, aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes had the film hitting a 100 per cent success rate, but this has dropped to 89 per cent after a number of less than favourable remarks including one from across the pond.
The Daily Mail have so far proved themselves to be the least impressed, writing "The bad news is that it lasts two hours 45 minutes, which is astonishingly bloated - and unforgivable in a film that spends a long, ponderous hour getting started." The Associated Press too however have stuck the knife in - albeit giving director Christopher Nolan a backhanded compliment - when writing "This is the problem when you're an exceptional, visionary filmmaker. When you give people something extraordinary, they expect it every time. Anything short of that feels like a let-down."
Let's not forget the tide of good reviews that 'The Dark Knight Rises' has received so far though, with many still expecting the film to be a hugely commercial smash. And it has to be said most of the Brits are on board, with The Times saying "The most anticipated movie of the summer is as ambitious and bombastic as they get, with widescreen mayhem, thousands of extras, hyper-kinetic effects, and a roiling, twisting plot."
