Is James Bond 'Skyfall' A Love Letter To London?
Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes and Dame Judi Dench spoke highly of one another and even more so of the capital city. Having spent much of his 22-film career in varying ports of the world, for the 23rd instalment director Mendes was quite insistent on bringing 007 back home to London, something that he very literally does given that filming for the film was shot almost entirely on location. Beginning last November, filming for the upcoming Bond movie saw the crew head to such famous London locations as Southwark, Whitehall, Canary Wharf and inside the National Gallery, as well as Smithfield meat markets and St Batholomew's Hospital. On top of this, the Department of Energy and Climate Change and Charing Cross stations in the capital are also said to have been used.
Skyfall will see Bond at the scene of a disastrous operation in Istanbul, after which the super sleuth follows a trail taking him from London all the way to the South China Sea. Naomie Harris and French actress Berenice Marlohe will star as the bond girls, whilst Javier Bardem will star as the main villain and Ralph Fiennes will portray a Government official. The film will be released this October 26th, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Bond series that began with Dr No in 1962.
