Is Bradley Cooper’S ‘The Words’ The Worst Film Of 2012?
Sorry Ladies. It seems that Bradley Cooper – the current Sexiest Man Alive and rising star amongst Hollywood’s leading man – really can do something wrong. The ‘Hangover’ actor appears in new romantic drama ‘The Words’, which is a leading contender for the worst reviewed film of the year.
To be fair to Cooper, it’s probably a dodgy script that has gotten ‘The Words’ into all sorts of difficulty with the critics, and perhaps he signed onto the movie to help out his long-time directing pals Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal. The movie follows a young writer Rory Jansen who achieves literary success after publishing the next great American novel, though there’s just one problem: he didn’t write it. As Rory’s past comes back to haunt him, his star continues to ruse, forcing him to confront that fact that he stole another man’s work. Claudia Puig of USA Today was the first to stick the knife in, writing, “Writer/directors Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal chose to make The Words as bland and obvious as its title, wringing out any subtlety or artistry”. Mary F Pols of Time Magazine added, “As good looking but shallow as its multiple leading men”, while Betsy Sharkey of the Los Angeles Times, “It's a snooze”.
Though ‘The Words’ probably isn’t going to trouble the box-office too much, Bradley Cooper will soon begin work in ‘The Hangover III’, which is pretty much guaranteed to be a smash hit.
