Iron Man 3 Moves Into Top 5 All-Time Grossing Films, NOT Including Inflation
It's now just behind Avengers as the highest grossing superhero movie
It’s official: Iron Man 3 is one of the most successful films of all time. IN fact, it’s one of the top 5 most successful film of all time, sharing list space with the likes of Avatar and Titanic.
Overtaking Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Iron Man 3 has now made $1.14bn (£760.5m) worldwide, officially staking its claim in the most important film list (for the studios, anyway). Having grossed more than $2bn (£1.32bn) worldwide, Avatar and Titanic maintain the films to beat, though, and will most likely stay atop the list for many years to some. Avengers Assemble and the final Harry Potter are ranked third and fourth, but with $1.34bn (£889m), the young wizard will be a hard step for Iron Man 3 to take as its popularity in the cinema diminishes. According to the all time top grossing list, which takes inflation into account, neither Harry Potter or Iron Man make it into the top 100! Gone With The Wind, Star Wars and The Sound of Music comprise a powerful top 3, while E.T and Titanic complete the top 5.

Iron Man 3 was always going to be a commercial success, but to break into the top 5 of the all-time grossing list was a real over-achievement for the third film in the franchise. It’ll need to gross another billion dollars or so, though, to break into the top 5 of the inflation list.
