Former The Dubliners singer Jim Mccann has died at the age of 70.
The Irish folk musician passed away on Thursday (05Mar15) after a long battle with throat cancer.
He joined The Dubliners in 1974 and spent five years with the group until leaving in 1979 to pursue a solo career, scoring a big hit with the track Grace.
MCCann reunited with the band in 2002 - the year he was diagnosed - to help his old pals celebrate on their 40th anniversary tour and he joined them onstage again in 2012, although his aggressive treatment had robbed him of his vocals.
Paying tribute to MCCann, his bandmate John Sheahan tells Britain's Sky News, "(He was) a bubbly character, always ready to share a joke, a natural raconteur."
MCCann was laid to rest on Monday (09Mar15).
'Smalls Change (Meditations Upon Ageing)' arrives in April.
The two awards have made for a great 72nd birthday present for the country music icon.
