Guy Pearce is ''troubled'' by insecurities about his acting ability.
The 44-year-old actor - who has starred in 'Prometheus, 'The King's Speech' and 'Mildred Pierce' -had to go on a one-year break from his profession after becoming ''very angry'' at one point in his career, and he insists Hollywood stars are ''never fully confident'' unless they are aware of their strengths and weaknesses.
He said: ''Success comes in waves. The movie industry is very competitive, and if you're like me and you suffer from your own insecurities about whether or not you're any good, that can be troubling.
''I became very angry at one point and I had to step away for a year. You can know your own strengths, but until you solidify them with actual evidence you're never fully confident.''
Guy has been married to wife Kate since 1997, and he finds it easy to stay grounded by having a partner who isn't driven by the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
He added: ''Having a partner who has nothing to do with Hollywood helps keep things in perspective.
''Our life is not in any way centred around celebrity, partly because we live in Melbourne and partly because of my reluctance to be involved in it.''
