Steve Carell Hails 'Genius' David Copperfield In Burt Wonderstone Interview (Video)

Steve Carell paid tribute to legendary magician David Copperfield while talking to Contactmusic.com about his latest comedy 'The Incredible Burt Wonderstone,' with Jim Carrey and Steve Buscemi. Copperfield served as a creative consultant on the movie, about superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone and Anton Marvelton, who look to salvage their act by staging their own daring stunt.

On working with Copperfield - the most commercially successful magician in history having grossed over $3 billion - Carell said, "Well he's a legend.to have him.in a movie about his world. He's a historian.he designed a trick for us [and] we had to sign a waiver [secrecy document]."

So far, reviews for The Incredible Burt Wonderstone are what you'd expect, mostly average with a smattering of  high praise for individual performances. Joe Leydon of Variety said, "Carell is at the top of his form as the self-absorbed Burt struggles to maintain his haughty sangfroid while trying to convince himself, and everyone else, that's he's still a superstar." Victoria Alexander of Film Festival Today was a little more to the point, writing, "Jim Carrey walks off with the movie and he knows it."

Carell was equally complimentary of co-star Carrey's performance, telling us, "I'm just a huge fan of his, he can do no wrong." The comedian recalled watching Ace Ventura after it had been released, saying, "There were three people in the theatre, and it was filled with laughter."
