Idol's Family Robbed Days After Kidney Surgery
A pawn shop owned by the family of American Idol winner Phillip Phillips has been robbed, according to Entertainment Tonight. The incident occurred some-time between Monday night and Tuesday morning. An Albany Police Department spokesman confirmed that the culprit(s) stole a backhoe (a type of digger) from Albany Sporting Goods and Pawn Store and drove it through the store, "leaving a huge opening in the back."
At the time that the burglary took place, the store was closed and no staff members were present. They are currently taking stock to see if anything else had gone missing. The shop is owned by Phillip's father. Since winning American Idol, fortune has not exactly been on Phillips' side. Earlier this month, he had to undergo surgery to remove a kidney stone and now his family are facing the aftermath of the destructive theft from their business. Phillips was a surprise victor in the 2012 TV talent contest American Idol. Throughout the final few rounds of the show, it looked as though Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet would be the final two battling for the title. In the show's final, though, it turned out to be a battle between Phillip and Jessica and the 21 year old emerged victorious.
Sources close to the investigation into the burglary allegedly told TMZ that over $4,000 worth of merchandise had been stolen. Items believed to be missing include flat screens, antique coins, necklaces and hand guns.
