Idol Linked To Aerosmith Role

Veteran rocker Billy Idol has become the latest big name rumoured to be in the running to replace Steven Tyler as frontman of Aerosmith.

The band revealed they will be hosting auditions to find a new member while Tyler takes a hiatus, with guitarist Joe Perry insisting the star won't be ready to tour with them until he recovers from a recent stint in rehab and a series of operations.

Lenny Kravitz was the first singer linked to the role, but admitted he would never take over from Tyler, while reports have also suggested former Queen star Paul Rodgers.

Now Idol is rumoured to be in contention, with Classic Rock magazine reporting he was due to meet with the musicians but pulled out after falling sick.

A source tells the publication, "Joe said he wanted to talk to Billy about joining Aerosmith, because the band were having problems with Steven. As far as I know Idol did not show up due to having a cold."

Perry recently admitted they have already talked to a number of singers about replacing Tyler, but refused to divulge any names. He said, "(There's) a few people we've talked to, and we'll see how it goes... As far as auditions go, we'll probably just sit around and have a couple of drinks and see if we get along - because we're already gonna know that they can sing."

I'm thinking these guys are having the money problems. Why else would they be so hard up for replacing a frontman who is irreplaceable. It's impossible. Besides who would pay 90 bucks to see an Aerosmithshow and not get to see the (not even arguably) the greatest rock and roll frontman of all time. The Stones with out Mick? The Who without Roger? Zeppellin with out Robert? You get the point. I saw Aerosmith in the late 70's in St. Pete. when they were touring without Joe. You remember, when he went off on a tangent of his own. The show sucked. His poser look alike sucked. This made the whole band suck. Greatness within a band...on any level ...Cant't be replaced. Joe Perry, as good a guitar player he is, need's tocome back down to earth and remember the times he wasn't so perfect within his own life at times. If the insist on a replacement frontman...For a while anyway to bag some quick cash...They should consider an unknown who can imitate a Steven voice. Also be willing to build a stage without the mikestand scarf.

I'm a HUGE Idol fan, but even this doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Billy is an AWESOME performer with HIS BAND or doing solo projects as well. Aerosmith w/o Steven Tyler is over as far as I'm concerned. I'm so glad I got to see them a couple of years ago when Tyler was sober and performing perfectly.Like the comment posted b4 mine advised, time to do other projects guys!

I have no problem giving Billy Idol his props. But, come on!!! WTF GUYS!!! You have to be f**king kidding me!!?? I can only imagine Tyler laughing his ass off!!! Here's how I see it. Without Steven, You should just call it a day and go do other projects!! I love all the guys in Aerosmith. If any one member leaves it wouldn't be Aerosmith!! The band wasn't Aerosmith back when Perry left, or when Whitford left and it won't be Aerosmith if Tyler leaves or should I say replaced? Sounds more like a $$$ money issue than a band issue. I know this much. I won't buy anything that doesn't have Tyler on throat!! Good luck guys. You'll need it!! Billy Idol!! Axl Rose would be a better choice than Billy!! At least get an American singer!!
