Idol Ads Costing More Than Football
It would appear that advertisers are not expecting ratings for American Idol to fall significantly following the departure of Simon Cowell this season. Advertising Age observed that Fox is selling 30-second spots on the show for $467,617 -- making it the most expensive ad buy on television. It tops NBC's Sunday Night Football, whose spots are going for $415,000 each, according to the trade publication. Because of its popularity with younger viewers, Fox's Glee landed in third place on Ad Age 's survey with $272,694 per spot, while the network's animated Family Guy and The Simpsons followed with $259,289 and $253,170 respectively -- despite the fact that both shows air opposite Sunday Night Football. Ad Age points out that the figures may not be accurate since they are drawn from surveys of six ad-buying agencies and other sources.
