Ian Somerhalder - Ian Somerhalder Thanks Fans For Birthday Donations
11 December 2012Actor Ian Somerhalder is thrilled after fans donated to his environmental foundation to mark his birthday.
The Vampire Diaries star turned 34 on Saturday (08Dec12) and asked his followers to celebrate by helping to boost the funds of his Ian Somerhalder Foundation (Isf), which sets out to protect the world's animals and eco-systems.
In a blog update last week (begs03Dec12), he wrote, "My birthday is on December 8th. I don't need any presents (for my birthday). My only ask is that you please support our foundation so that we can reach our goal and win this challenge. This would be a huge leap for Isf."
Somerhalder set out to raise $50,000 (£31,000) as part of the birthday drive, and was overwhelmed when fans started donating in their hundreds, with the total reaching $25,000 (£15,625) by Tuesday (11Dec12).
He later took to Twitter.com to thank those who had donated, writing, "So cool... Thank you everyone - this is truly amazing."
