Ian Rankin Bringing Rebus Back To Life In New Novel
Rankin confirmed that Rebus will be "as stubborn and anarchic as ever" and this time, will find himself in trouble with a new creation of Rankin's, going by the name of Malcolm Fox. Fox is a member of Edinburgh's internal affairs. Rebus was officially retired in 'Exit Music' but Rankin revealed that he felt he had "unfinished business" with his creation. He also revealed that Rebus' protege, Siobhan will be emerging from the shadow of her mentor and "moving forward with her own career." Rankin said of Rebus' re-emergence "He had never really gone away, but was working for Edinburgh's cold case unit. And I knew I had a story that was a perfect fit for him."
Rankin has won numerous literary awards for his Rebus novels, which he has been publishing since 1987, when he published 'Knots and Crosses.' The title of his latest book takes its title from a Jackie Leven song, the late singer-songwriter with whom Rankin was friends. "Jackie was a great guitarist and a fine songwriter with a vein of robust romantic imagery and a voice that could melt granite," Rankin said. "He was also a terrific storyteller whose life had provided no end of material. He's still much missed by all of us who knew him."
