Ian Brown Gets Three-month Driving Ban

The Stone Roses singer Ian Brown has been banned from driving.

The 'Waterfall' singer was caught speeding at 93 miles per hour (mph) while in a 40mph roadwork zone near Stafford while on his way to his home in Cheshire, in North West England in October 2010.

The 48-year-old musician - who was driving his £40,000 Lexus car - was banned for three months by a judge as he had been caught exceeding the speed limit three times in three years.

Judge David Taylor - who imposed the ban, which is the minimum for the offence, at Stoke Magistrates Court - told Ian: "Speed limits are not imposed on a motorway unless there are very good reasons.

"Those reasons are almost always concerning public safety."

The singer - who is currently rehearsing for The Stone Roses' huge comeback shows next year - was also ordered to pay £1,015 costs and given a £900 fine.

Ian had originally managed to keep his licence last month after being brought before court on similar charges, but had angered the judge in his latest case by changing his plea to guilty at the last minute.

His lawyer, Nick Freeman, had argued his client needed to keep his vehicle in order to attend rehearsals with the newly-reunited group, which he said were taking place at a "remote secret location".

The lawyer also stated a ban would have caused the 'I Am the Resurrection' hitmaker "insurmountable" difficulties and would interfere with him seeing his 11-year-old son, who lives in London with his mother.
