Family and friends of jazz legend Acker Bilk brought the village of Publow in Somerset, England to a standstill on Thursday (13Nov14) as they said their farewells to the musician and poet.

Bilk, who lived in nearby Pensford, died at the beginning of the month (02Nov14) and his final gig took place at All Saints Church, where hundreds of mourners gathered to say goodbye to the beloved clarinet player.

Canon John Simpson, who officiated the funeral service, told those gathered he knew the Stranger on the Shore hitmaker personally, adding, "He was always most welcoming and friendly".

Bilk's composition Aria was played as his coffin was carried out of the church and a poem he wrote about the nearby River Chew was read during the service.
