Hugh Jackman Grateful To Still Have Career

Hugh Jackman is grateful to still be an actor after struggling at the start of his career.

The 42-year-old star - who has starred in 'X-Men', 'Van Helsing' and 'Australia' - admits he "wasn't very good" when he began his career so he is often surprised that he still gets roles in the industry.

Speaking at the UK premiere of robot boxing movie 'Real Steel' at London's Empire Leicester Square last night (14.09.11), he told BANG Showbiz: "When I started acting I wasn't very good so I'm constantly just thrilled I'm not being kicked out."

Hugh - who plays Wolverine in the 'X-Men' franchise and appears as a former boxer in 'Real Steel' - likes to play hard men in movies because they make his life "more interesting" as he admits to being "pretty boring" off-screen.

He added: "I love playing flawed characters because I think Drama films are about conflicts.

"I enjoy playing tough guys in movies because I'm really pretty boring in real life. I just get to be much more interesting on screen."

Hugh explained 'Real Steel' - which is set in the year 2020 and tells the story of how robots have replaced humans as boxers resulting in his character, a former professional boxer, becoming a promoter - has been one of the best films he has done.

But the hunk prefers stage acting which he is set to do later this year when he returns to New York to star in 'Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway'.

He said: "This movie has one of my favourites to do but ultimately I prefer the stage.

"I can't wait to go back to Broadway again later this year."
