Hugh Grant Testifies At U.k. Hacking Inquiry

Hugh Grant on Monday implicated another British tabloid in the telephone hacking scandal that has until now focused on the now-defunct Rupert Murdoch tabloid News of the World . In an appearance before the Leveson inquiry into the scandal, Grant hit out at a story published by The Mail on Sunday that claimed that his relationship with longtime girlfriend Jemima Khan, herself a writer and editor, was on the rocks after she discovered that he was making phone calls to a "plummy-voiced woman." Grant, who maintained at the hearing that the woman was a studio assistant that he merely had business dealings with, said, "I cannot for the life of me think of any conceivable source for the story in the Mail on Sunday except those voice messages on my mobile phone." The newspaper quickly denied Grant's conclusion, insisting that the information came from a freelance journalist who had been told by a source who was regularly speaking to Jemima Khan. "Mr. Grant's allegations are mendacious smears driven by his hatred of the media." But Khan quickly released a statement of her own insisting that the MoS claim was "not true" and said that the first time she heard about the messages from "the plummy voiced woman" "was when I read about it in the MoS. The 'source' close to me must be psychic. The MoS claims that he/she gave them a story I knew nothing about till it was in the paper."
