How Sitcom Actress Was Identified As Boston Bomber
Nearly everyone who has ever used a digital spelling corrector has seen it make corrections that were more egregious than the original error or try to correct names that didn't need correcting. Such presumably was the case when Caption Solutions, which provides some of those running captions at the bottom of the screen during newscasts, identified one of the Boston marathon bombing suspects as 19-year-old Zooey Deschanel. Apparently that was the closest name in the spelling corrector's memory to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the actual suspect. Alerted to the gaffe, the New Girl star tweeted, Whoa! Epic closed captioning FAIL! Kala Patterson, president of Caption Solutions, dutifully issued a regret-the-error apology.
