Rihanna - How Has Rihanna Got Only One No. 1 Album?
We at Contact Music consider ourselves pretty au fait with contemporary music goings on. Nevertheless, we were more than shocked to be reminded that Rihanna, before Unapologetic, had never had a number one album. Her seventh album has broken that tradition, storming to the top spot with almost a quarter of a million sales in its first week. Lucky number seven.
So, despite Rihanna being celebrity with the most fans on Facebook, and regardless of the fact that she's got twelve number one singles, Unapologetic is the first album of hers to reach that coveted top spot. So what is it that has stopped the young singer from getting to that goal until now?
Talk That Talk, which featured 'We Found Love', only reached number three last year, in a week where Mac Miller nabbed the top spot. Likewise, her 2010 album Loud only got to number three. To be fair to the Bajan beauty, she was contending with the Country Music tour-de-force Taylor Swift that week. Previously her highest rated album was Good Girl Gone Bad in 2007, which reached number two (close but no cigar). This time she lost out to Maroon 5's It Wont Be Soon Before Long. It seems that repetitious bad luck was the only thing in her way.
Well, despite all these set backs she's finally got her number one, her mass campaigning and 777 tour will probably have had something to do with, but she certainly more than deserves it. She'll be embarking on a massive Unapologetic tour in 2013 which is bound to be just as big a hit as the album itself.
