Houston Returns To The Stage
WHITNEY HOUSTON returned to the stage on Tuesday night (13Apr10) after a week of illness - marking her first concert in Britain for 11 years.
The R&B superstar was forced to scrap a string of European concerts earlier this month (Apr10) after she was diagnosed with chronic rhinopharyngitis - a swelling of the membranes in the nose and throat.
Houston axed a concert in Paris, France, as well as two gigs in Manchester, England and a show in Scotland, but she resumed her Nothing But Love World Tour by taking to the stage in Birmingham, England on Tuesday.
The singer addressed her recent health scare during the show, telling the crowd, "I'm feeling pretty good myself. Thank you so much for asking."
But her recent onstage problems returned as critics accused the star of sounding breathless throughout the show - although Houston blamed her panting on the air conditioning system at the LG Arena venue.
The I Have Nothing star also drew boos from the crowd when she left the stage for 15 minutes for a lengthy costume change, and addressed the restless audience on her return, telling them: "I could hear you getting p**sed off."
The criticism mirrors Houston's recent troubles in Australia when her shows were mauled by critics after she struggled to breathe throughout her set, and took long breaks - prompting fears she had started taking drugs again, a claim her lawyer vehemently denied.
