Hot Favourite Bardem Wins His First Oscar
JAVIER BARDEM's menacing portrayal of psychotic killer ANTON CHIGURH in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN earned the actor his first Oscar on Sunday night (24Feb08). The Spanish movie star was a red-hot favourite to win the Best Supporting Actor prize. Bardem delivered half his acceptance speech in his native Spanish tongue for the benefit of his actress mother, who accompanied him to the 80th Academy Awards. The award was Bardem's first Oscar, but he was previously nominated for his portrayal of poet/artist Reinaldo Arenas in 2000 movie Before Night Falls.
