Hong Kong Film Removed From Tokyo Film Festival
The Hong Kong-produced movie Floating City has been withdrawn from the Tokyo Film Festival, following violent protests on the Chinese mainland last week over Japan's decision to nationalize the disputed Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea. Britain's Screen Daily quoted a festival spokesman as saying, Although we have strongly requested those involved not to call of the plan to take part in the festival, the cancellation has unfortunately been finalized. It had previously been announced that the film by Hong Kong director Yim Ho would have its international premiere at the festival. Screen Daily described it as a drama chronicling the rise of an illiterate man to wealth and power in Hong Kong's corporate world.
