Holly Robinson Peete - Holly Robinson Peete Marks World Autism Awareness Day With United Nations Speech
Actress Holly Robinson Peete headed to the United Nations headquarters in New York on Tuesday (02Apr13) to deliver a speech in honour of World Autism Awareness Day.
The 21 Jump Street star, whose eldest son Rodney, Jr. suffers from the developmental disorder, took part in a special panel discussion to address the need to inform more people about autism and other similar conditions which affects individuals, families and societies worldwide.
Taking to her Twitter.com page after her appearance, she writes, "Just finished my speech for Un panel on socioeconomic needs of families affected by autism. handssweating (sic)".
Peete also shared a photo of herself and her son Rodney, Jr. to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day on Tuesday, and expressed her hope to eventually get rid of the stigma associated with the disorder.
She wrote, "I hope for a future where the compassion of our community will not only accept my son but also allow him the opportunity to flourish and give back to society."
The actress spent the whole day campaigning for the cause, whose advocates encourage supporters to wear blue to draw attention to the subject, and kicked off World Autism Awareness Day as part of a group invited to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.
