Hideji Otaki - Hideji Otaki Lands Posthumous Honour At Japanese Film Awards

The 87 year old, who lost his battle with lung cancer in October (12), was named Best Supporting Actor at the annual event for his final role in 2012 drama Dearest.

High school drama The Kirishima Thing claimed two top prizes - Best Picture and Best Director for Daihachi Yoshida, while Best Actor went to Hiroshi Abe for comedy Thermae Romae. Kirin Kiki took home the female equivalent for Chronicle of my Mother, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Oscar-nominated The Intouchables was awarded Best Foreign Language Film ahead of Argo, Skyfall, The Dark Knight Rises and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Best Animation went to Wolf Children Ame and Yuki by Mamoru Hosoda.

The 36th Japan Academy Prize took place in Tokyo on Friday (08Mar13).
