Helm Sues Advertising Company For Copyright
Former THE BAND drummer LEVON HELM has filed a lawsuit against a New York advertising company following the commercial use of his group's song THE WEIGHT.
Helm - who received a royalty payment for the use of the track in the advert - is requesting further information about BBDO Worldwide's profits from the mobile phone TV campaign, because he believes he has not received adequate compensation.
He says, "It was just a complete, damn sellout of The Band - its reputation, its music; just as much disrespect as you could pour on Richard and Rick's tombstones."
The Band's vocalist RICHARD MANUEL passed away in 1986, while bassist RICK DANKO died in 1999.
