Dame Helen Mirren - Helen Mirren hopeful for Hitchcock at Oscars

Dame Helen Mirren is hopeful 'Hitchcock' will win big at the Oscars.

The biopic based on Sir Alfred Hitchcock's relationship with wife Alma Reville has received much buzz, particularly for the performances of Sir Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock and Helen as Alma, and the actress - who already has an Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in 'The Queen' - thinks it would be ''wonderful'' for a small budget movie to succeed at the Oscars.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz at the 'Hitchcock' premiere in London on Sunday (09.12.12), she said: ''I'd feel great for the movie. It would be so wonderful for the movie because it's not 'Les Miserables'. You know what I mean? We can't afford big advertising, so any recognition on any level is always a great help. I think the film deserves it. It's a wonderful film. It's funny, it's smart, it's original. That would be lovely.''

The film's director, Sacha Gervasi, added: ''I don't even know if there is Oscar buzz. I'm really happy [about] anything where the film is talked about. It was literally a miracle to get this movie made, so those sorts of discussions are plus, plus, crazy.''

But the film's title star Sir Anthony Hopkins - a former Best Actor Oscar winner for his chilling portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in 'Silence of the Lambs' - is nonchalant about the film's awards buzz.

He said: ''If it happens, it happens. I don't think about it.''
