Helders: New Arctics Album Could Be Finished This Month

by | 07 November 2008

Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders claimed the band's third album could be completed this month (November).

The Sheffield quartet have been working on the follow-up to Favourite Worst Nightmare with Queens of the Stone Age lead singer Josh Homme.

And speaking to the Guardian newspaper, Helders revealed the Mercury nominees' third effort may be finished in a matter of weeks.

"We're gonna do a bit more recording next month [November] and then we'll probably be in here [the rehearsal space] for most of December getting ready to go out again," he said.

"We made a start on [the album] a few weeks ago and we're gonna go back and try and finish it off. That'll be two blocks of two weeks.

"It's probably do-able for us to finish it in this next block. But we don't want to put pressure on by saying, 'we've got to finish it this time'."

Arctic Monkeys worked with Jim Abbiss and Alan Smyth on their hugely successful debut Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not before heading to the studio with Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford for the Mercury-nominated Favourite Worst Nightmare.

Helders was speaking after the release of the band's new live DVD Arctic Monkeys at the Apollo, due for release on November 3rd.

The concert film was directed by Richard Ayoade, star of The IT Crowd, and was shot at the Manchester Apollo in December 2007.
