Hedi Slimane has completed his first fashion show since coming in charge of Yves Saint Laurent.
Hedi Slimane has made his debut as the chief designer at Yves Saint Laurent.
The 44-year-old designer - who previously headed up Dior Homme - referenced classic YSL in the collection shown today (02.10.12) at Paris Fashion Week, which was strongly-influenced by 70s style.
Models were sent down the runway in wide-brimmed hat, shades of nude and grey and pussybow blouses.
Tuxedo jackets were also popular, as were maxi-dresses, although the image was more rock than 70s hippie.
The silhouette relied on skinny legged models, with pencil trousers worn with classic Mary Jane shoes.
However, not all critics have been kind to Hedi, with Lisa Armstrong at the Daily Telegraph proclaiming the collection to be ''surprising'' because it ''was so unsurprising'' and Cathy Horyn at the New York Times saying it was ''the same old French label''.
Speaking recently, Hedi said he was prioritising the ready-to-wear collection over everything else.
He said: ''Haute couture is a legitimate subject for Yves Saint Laurent and could resume one day. The priority today is to revamp and redeploy the luxury ready-to-wear.''
