Heavy Atmosphere At The Grammys In The Wake Of Whitney Houston Death

There is a heavy atmosphere at tonight's Grammy Awards in the wake of the news that Whitney Houston has died, aged 48. The event schedule has been altered, with Jennifer Hudson expected to pay tribute to Whitney with a live performance later this evening (February 12, 2012).

Bonnie Raitt told reporters on the red carpet that her performance with Alicia Keys would now be a tribute to both Etta James and Whitney Houston, in recognition of Alicia's friendship with Whitney. The majority of stars arriving at the awards made mention of Whitney's recent passing. EL DE BARGE told reporters that Whitney Houston was "the queen in her own right." Jessie J was seen arriving at the event; she made her name performing acapella songs on YouTube for her growing legions of fans and was known for her impressive performances of Whitney's songs. And Jennifer Hudson's Whitney Houston tribute has overtaken Adele as the most anticipated performance of the night. ?uestlove told red carpet reporters that it was "unfortunate that 's now the highlight" and added that he was "thrown off" by the tragic events that have occurred.

Reuters have reported that Whitney Houston's autopsy has been completed but that police will not be releasing any details until Monday morning. The toxicology results will take around 4-6 weeks to be produced, according to the report.
