Heather Mills has broken her shoulder in a skiing accident.

The 43-year-old former model - who lost her left leg below the knee in when she was hit by a police motorcycle in 1993 - was training at the Austrian resort of Molltaler when the incident happened on Wednesday morning (11.05.11).

According to Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung, Heather - who is training to try and be a part of the Great Britain Ski time for the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Russia - was taken to the nearby Lienz Hospital by a helicopter, but no surgery was required.

While at the hospital, her bed was cordoned off so she had privacy, but she is now hoping to return home to the UK.

It is not the first time Heather - who is best known for her marriage to Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney - has hurt herself on the slopes.

In January, she injured her right leg while taking part in a 24-hour charity race.

Heather has been taking her bid to compete in the 2014 Paralympics particularly seriously, and is rumoured to have purchased a £1.7 million chalet in the Austrian Alps as a base for when she is training.

Discussing her participation recently, she said: "Nobody is on the Paralympic Team until three months before those games. If you're lucky enough to get on the team, which I am, you get a trial for a year. If I managed to compete, it would be phenomenal - very inspiring for all the kids that I counsel.

"They didn't believe they could do anything and now they are trying ice skating and rollerblading and biking and swimming, which is wonderful. Having loved sport my whole life, competing in a Paralympics would be a dream come true."
